Vandal strikes recruiting center

A Wausau recruiting center for the U.S. Army, Air Force and Navy was targeted by vandals late Wednesday or early Thursday.

Someone wrote "troops out now" in green and black spray paint on the exterior of the building at 330 Grand Ave. between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

Sara Micka of the public affairs office for the Army recruiting battalion in Milwaukee described the incident as "disappointing."

"Soldiers have fought and died to defend our freedoms, and that includes the right to protest in a peaceful manner," Micka said.

Micka said a similar act of vandalism occurred at the recruiting center about this time last year. She said acts of vandalism at Army recruiting centers throughout Wisconsin are rare
