Recruiter’s office broken into, vandalized, graphitized, and two vehicles set on fire: US ATF Bure
SAN JOSE (BCN) -- Federal investigators are sifting through evidence today at a San Jose military recruiting office that was the target of an early morning arson, break-in and vandalism attack.
Police officers and firefighters first responded to the office, located at 2326 McKee Road, at approximately 4:15 a.m. Officials found two vehicles burning, the office broken into and graffiti on a wall, according to San Jose Fire Department spokesman Greg Spence. Agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are leading the investigation, since the office is property of the U.S. military. Two vehicles connected to the recruiting office were burned at the scene, ATF spokeswoman Marti McKee said. "One of them at least looks like it was camouflage painted," McKee said. The graffiti consisted of two words "pre-emptive attack," spray painted in red, on a side wall near the driveway of the building's entrance, McKee said. Spence said one of the two vehicles, a minivan, was destroyed by the fire. He could not confirm if the minivan was painted in a camouflage pattern. No cause of the fire or damage estimate is available at this time. McKee said the next investigation update would likely be late this afternoon. (Copyright 2002 by Bay City News.
